What are they?
Foursquare notifications give you great recommendations when you arrive somewhere - without even opening the app. Don't worry, we worked on this for years so (unlike other apps) it only takes a tiny sip of your battery.
We want you to enjoy your day, not worry about your phone dying! Having this turned on during the day only increases battery drain by about 0.7 percent per hour, or the equivalent to about a 20-minute game of Angry Birds over the course of a day. In addition, we automatically shut down when your battery dips below 30%.
Seeing the location arrow icon (in iOS) in your device's status bar does not mean we use your GPS. In fact, we don't even turn on GPS to power these notifications.
We developed these so that you wouldn't miss awesome stuff around you, like the best dish on a menu or the best new places in a new part of town.
In developing these, we focused on two things: making sure the notifications were valuable, and making sure they had only a tiny impact on battery.
